Grant Program FAQs
Where do I send my completed application and supporting materials?
Please submit your completed application, budget document, and signed faculty attestation letter to the online application form.
Who can apply for funding?
Any student at UMMS. Collaborative group applications are encouraged, but individual students may not be in more than one application team.
What are some potential themes for innovative grant proposals (not all-inclusive, other topic areas welcome)?
Supporting students effectively during times of stress or crisis
Building personal and psychological safety in your learning environment
Improving inclusiveness and community at UMMS, or a sense of belonging within teams
Connecting meaning and purpose with the mission and values of Michigan Medicine
Engaging leadership in decisions impacting learner well-being
Addressing imposter syndrome, stress, anxiety, depression, motivation, and isolation
Reducing stigma, increasing access, and encouraging emotional support or mental health services when needed
School-home harmony
The Office of Well-Being is interested in proposals that offer innovative and novel approaches that also have the potential to be scaled system-wide.
What types of submissions will not be considered?
Individual-based coping strategies and self-care routines are considered generally outside the scope of this program. Examples include yoga classes, book clubs, meditation/mindfulness classes, etc., Proposals that cover initiatives that were previously funded through our grant program is not considered a strong submission.
How much can be requested per proposal?
Grants will be awarded up to $5,000 each
When will grants be awarded?
Grant awardees will be notified the week of March 6, 2023, and awards will be distributed the week of March 20, 2023.
May Learner Well-Being Grant funds be used to cover training costs?
Consulting and training costs that stay within the awarded grant funds are eligible for grant funds if necessary to the outcome of the grant.
May Learner Well-Being Grant funds be used to pay for lunch or dinner?
Food and beverage costs may be considered to advance the proposed grant as long it stays within the awarded grant funds and follows Michigan Medicine's travel and hosting policy.
If I am awarded a grant, how much time will I have to complete the project?
We are requesting proposals for twelve-month programs/projects. In the event your program/project requires more time than initially anticipated, a three-month extension may be requested.
